Travel Destinations: Barcelona

Two weeks ago I was lucky enough to be in Barcelona; what I wouldn't give to go back there now with this cold weather!
Barcelona is Spain's second largest city and the capital of Catalonia( and the largest city). They speak Catalan, a different language altogether to Spanish. And Barcelona has 3 airports serving it; El Prat, the city's airport, Gerona about 40 minutes from Barcelona and Reus- the same. It is very easy to get the train from El Prat to Barcelona central (which I did) and takes about 20 minutes. There is so much to see and do in the city, I just didn't have time to do it all, unfortunately.

I did manage to visit the famous Sagrada Familia, designed by Gaudi. It is a Roman Catholic church and also, is incomplete, as Gaudi died before finishing and with work continually happening to it, they estimate it's completion in 2026! It's really easy to get to by the Metro, but queues were 2 hours to get inside so I didn't go.

I also went to another famous 'landmark'; Las Ramblas, or La Rambla, the 1.2 km tree lined street. There were street performers down one end and hundreds of stalls selling flowers and souvenirs the other. It is lined with shops and restaurants and leads down to the pier.
Another tourist landmark that you can enter from La Rambla is La Boqueria , a public market, that dates back to the 12th century.

It is primarily a Meat and Fish market, and only 200 years ago, had the official structure built and was officially recognized. It as full of meats typical to Spain, like Chorizo and Serrano ham, hanging everywhere,
Once done looking around we stopped for some Tapas at a nearby restaurant, I wasn't disappointed, it tasted sooo good!

Sorry for the picture heavy post, but I was snapping away the whole time in Barcelona, so this is just a tiny amount!
Have any of you been to Barcelona or want to go? I'd love to go back and see a bit more of the city. If you've been is there anywhere you'd recommend?
Thanks for reading, please comment/ subscribe if you like this post :)

  4. I've been in Barcelona in 2008, while I was in holidays in a city nearby.
But unfortunately I didn't see much (It was a Sunday and everything was closed). What I remember seeing was the Barcelona's football team stadium and the Sagrada Familia.
I would love to go back with more time to visit everything.

  8. I have been to Barcelona and loved it. I suggest to visit the Picasso Museum. Also, I highly recommend reading this fantastic book written by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, titled "The Shadow of the Wind," set in beautiful Barcelona. You will learn many interesting sights in that book in the midst of the drama and mystery. You posted beautiful pictures from your trip.
